ISLAMABAD: Police in the federal capital have taken Mubashir Hayat, husband of a former Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), into custody over his alleged involvement in a multi-million-rupee financial fraud, according to informed sources.
The accused was allegedly involved in financial corruption in five cases and had been declared a proclaimed offender in all of them. He was also wanted by the Loi Bher and Margalla police stations, police said on Tuesday.
Hayat was apprehended by personnel from the Humak police station, although authorities have yet to issue an official statement or formally confirm his arrest. Details surrounding the circumstances of his detention have not been disclosed by law-enforcement authorities.
Sources allege that Hayat lured numerous citizens into fraudulent investment schemes, depriving victims of their life savings and causing extensive financial losses. He had reportedly been wanted in connection with multiple cases registered at police stations across Punjab, where authorities had previously declared him a proclaimed offender and absconder. Additionally, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has reportedly been investigating Hayat for an extended period over alleged financial irregularities.
According to the sources, the cases against Hayat involve allegations of financial wrongdoing and fraudulent activities, although the precise nature and extent of the alleged transactions could not be independently verified. The police action follows the authorities’ efforts to apprehend individuals wanted in connection with financial crimes and other cases registered in different jurisdictions.
At present, no independent confirmation regarding the specific charges or the underlying allegations is available, and police have not publicly disclosed the legal grounds for his detention.
