The persistent non-payment of salaries and pensions to employees of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (Fuuast) has reached the Senate Standing Committee on Federal Education and Professional Training, which has sought comprehensive details of the university’s financial and administrative affairs.
According to a notice issued by the Senate Secretariat, the committee will meet at the Governor House in Karachi at 11am on Friday, September 4. Senator Bushra Anjum Butt will chair the meeting.
The committee will receive a briefing on the issues arising from the non-payment of salaries and pensions to Fuuast employees. The university administration has also been asked to provide complete details of its total workforce, including the number of teaching and non-teaching employees.
The Senate body has sought comprehensive information about the composition of the university’s Syndicate, including the tenure of each member and details of all vacant positions. Fuuast has also been directed to submit an account-wise statement of its available funds, along with details of pending financial liabilities relating to the salaries and pensions of employees.
The members expected to attend the meeting include Leader of the House in the Senate Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Senators Rahat Jamali, Ashraf Ali Jatoi, Syed Masroor Ahsan, Khalida Ateeb, Falak Naz, Fawzia Arshad, Mirza Muhammad Afridi, Gurdeep Singh, Kamran Murtaza and Syed Waqar Mehdi. Senator Sarmad Ali has been invited as a special invitee.
The federal minister for education and professional training will attend the meeting as an ex-officio member. The secretary of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training has also been asked to attend the meeting along with the heads of the departments concerned.
