PESHAWAR: The Anti-Corruption Court on Tuesday rejected the bail application of accused Usman Abid in a government wheat embezzlement case and sent him to prison.
The case was heard by Anti-Corruption Judge Asif Rashid.During the hearing, the prosecution told the court that 1,730 metric tonnes of wheat had gone missing from a government warehouse in Azakhel, Nowshera. An investigation was subsequently conducted, leading to the arrest of several accused.
The prosecution said the embezzlement had caused a loss of Rs196 million to the national exchequer and that government officials were also allegedly involved in the scam.The court was further informed that Usman Abid was taken into custody from the court premises after his interim bail application was rejected. The prosecution said the accused had remained absconding from the trial proceedings for a prolonged period.It also told the court that other accused nominated in the case had already faced legal proceedings and been convicted.
