LAHORE: The Lahore Police has expanded its public outreach to the digital sphere by launching an online open court on Facebook, allowing citizens to directly raise their complaints and concerns with police authorities. Since April 2024, DIG Operations Lahore Faisal Kamran has heard complaints from 59,314 citizens through open courts. According to the police, 87 per cent of citizens expressed satisfaction with the proceedings and timely relief provided. Last Sunday, the DIG Operations held the first Facebook-based online open court, which was attended by more than 10,000 people from Pakistan and other countries. The session continued for around 45 minutes, during which citizens shared their complaints, problems and views regarding policing.
The DIG Operations personally contacted several citizens who approached him through Facebook messages and listened to their concerns. Complaints relating to Lahore were recorded, and the relevant officers were directed to resolve them on a priority basis and inform the complainants about the action taken. According to Faisal Kamran, citizens who are unable to attend office-based open courts because of their commitments, distance or other reasons can now directly approach police officials from their homes.
During the online open court, citizens were also urged to report activities such as kite flying, aerial firing, one-wheeling and drug-related activities to police. The police assured citizens that the identity of those providing information about drugs would be kept confidential.
The police also addressed issues, including alleged illegal activities operating under the guise of massage centres, protection of citizens from fraudulent housing societies and prevention of property fraud.
