Police on Monday registered a case after seven armed robbers allegedly looted three jewellery shops in broad daylight at RBS Shopping Mall on University Road.
The robbery took place on Sunday afternoon within the jurisdiction of Mobina Town police station. The case was registered on the complaint of Mujtaba, the owner of one of the affected jewellery shops.
According to the FIR, seven armed robbers riding four motorcycles entered the mall and looted three jewellery shops at gunpoint. The suspects allegedly escaped with approximately 1.9 kilograms of gold jewellery, eight kilograms of silver, a bag containing assorted jewellery items and a mobile phone.
During the robbery, one of the jewellery shop owners opened fire at the robbers. However, another robber, who allegedly approached the jeweller from behind, kicked him, causing him to fall, and took away his firearm.
The robbers then fled the scene while firing shots. A security guard stationed outside the shopping mall also opened fire at the suspects, but they managed to escape. The police have so far been unable to arrest any of the suspects. They have launched an investigation into the robbery.
