The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested a passport office employee and an alleged agent during a crackdown against an “agent mafia” operating at the Passport Office in Saddar, Karachi.
According to the FIA spokesperson, the Anti-Corruption Circle Karachi conducted the operation on the basis of Inquiry No. 84/2026. The suspects were identified as agent Yousuf and Rehan, an LDC at the passport office.
The FIA alleged that the suspects were involved in deceiving citizens by promising expedited passport processing, facilitating applications with incomplete or unsuitable documents, and bypassing official procedures.
Initial investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly targeted citizens visiting the passport office, offering them quick passport processing and special facilitation in various matters in exchange for money, the FIA said.
The agency said proceedings for the registration of an FIR against both suspects were under way, while an investigation was also being conducted into the possible involvement of other facilitators and government officials linked to the alleged agent network.
The action was carried out on the directives of FIA Director General Usman Anwar and under the supervision of Karachi Zone Director Muntazar Mehdi, as part of the Interior Ministry’s campaign to eliminate the role of agent networks from government institutions.
