ALPURI: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Foundation (KPEF) and the University of Shangla have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide higher education opportunities to deserving and underprivileged students of the district.

The MoU was signed on Tuesday by University of Shangla Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Sardar Khan and KPEF Director Academics Muhammad Saqib. Senior officials of both institutions were also present on the occasion.

The KPEF will provide scholarships covering 80 percent of tuition fees to deserving students of the University of Shangla. The scholarships will be awarded on merit to students who demonstrate excellent academic performance but lack the financial capacity to bear the expenses of higher education due to economic constraints.

The objective of the initiative is to provide financial assistance to talented and deserving students to enable them to continue higher education, and to encourage those who are at risk of dropping out due to financial difficulties.

The Memorandum of Understanding will remain effective for a period of four years. It can also be renewed with the mutual written consent of both parties. The agreement further reserves the right for both institutions to make amendments at any time with mutual written agreement.

University of Shangla Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Sardar Khan termed the MoU a positive development for deserving and capable students of the university. He hoped the initiative would help talented students facing financial hardships in pursuing higher education and would contribute to reducing the dropout rate due to economic pressures. It is worth mentioning here that KPEF was established in 1992 under an act of the Provincial Assembly. It is a corporate body whose primary objective is to promote and develop education in the private sector across the province.
