Three policemen were injured after residents protesting prolonged power outages in New Nazimabad, Manghopir, allegedly attacked them on Monday.
According to details, residents blocked a road in New Nazimabad to protest prolonged power outages and raised slogans against the lack of electricity. Following the protest, the Manghopir police reached the scene and attempted to negotiate with the protesters and clear the road. However, the arrival of the police reportedly enraged the protesters, who allegedly attacked three policemen.
The three personnel sustained serious injuries in the assault. A heavy contingent of the police from various police stations in District West later reached the scene, rescued the injured personnel and transported them to a private hospital for medical treatment.
According to a Karachi Police spokesperson, the injured policemen were identified as 38-year-old Head Constable Saad-ur-Rehman, son of Saeed-ur-Rehman; 51-year-old Constable Ghulam Rasool; and 25-year-old Constable Shehbaz Ali, son of Anwar Ali. Further investigation was under way.

Defaulters in Sharafi Goth, Gharibabad, and Pak Colony areas have unpaid bills running into the millions, said the K-Electric spokesperson in a statement.
Losses on feeders in these areas have exceeded 80 per cent, the spokesperson said, adding that despite repeated kunda removal drives and efforts to improve bill recovery, residents in the area continue to engage in electricity theft and default on their bills.
The duration of load-shedding depends on the level of electricity theft and losses in the area. Citizens are urged to ensure timely payment of their electricity bills.
