A 55-year-old rickshaw driver drowned after falling into an underground water tank at an under-construction building on Mirza Adam Khan Road in Lyari, police said on Saturday.
The body was found in the underground tank near the P-1 minibus stop in the Chakiwara area. The police and Edhi volunteers recovered the body and transported it to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.
Chakiwara SHO Inspector Sajid Dharejo identified the deceased as 55-year-old Aslam, son of Abdul Samad.
According to the police, Aslam had brought some goods to the under-construction building on Friday. The olice suspected that he might have gone towards the water tank after unloading the goods and accidentally slipped and fallen into it.
No one noticed the incident as construction work had stopped on Friday and there was apparently no one present at the site. The body was discovered on Saturday morning when workers arrived and began draining water from the underground tank.
