Police on Thursday registered a case against unidentified suspects after the several-day-old body of a six- to seven-year-old girl was found stuffed in a sack in a drain near a wedding hall on the Mehran Highway, close to Landhi Hospital Chowrangi.
The case was registered at the Quaidabad police station under Sections 363-A, 302, 34 and 201 of the Pakistan Penal Code on behalf of the state. The police said the identity of the deceased girl had not yet been established. Her body was recovered from the drain on Wednesday and was several days old.
The girl’s post-mortem examination had been conducted, while samples had been preserved for DNA profiling and chemical examination. The samples would be sent to a laboratory for further analysis.
The police said efforts to keep the body in the mortuary for three days were abandoned as its condition had deteriorated considerably. A rescue organisation has been asked to arrange the girl’s burial as an unclaimed body. The olice said further investigation was underway to identify the victim and trace those responsible for her alleged abduction and murder.
