A 22-year-old prayer leader was stabbed to death with a sharp-edged weapon in Faqira Goth near the Super Highway, while the alleged attacker was critically wounded after area residents opened fire on him, police said.

The incident took place near Baloch Mohalla in Faqira Goth, within the jurisdiction of the SITE Super Highway Industrial Area police station, during a quarrel. The police identified the deceased as Qari Hanif, son of Ali Hassan, and the injured suspect as 30-year-old Bilal Ahmed, son of Gul Zameen. Both were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

According to the police, Hanif was the prayer leader of Fatima-tuz-Zahra Masjid and was on his way to the mosque to lead Zuhr prayers when the suspect approached him and attacked him with a knife.

The police said Hanif attempted to flee, but the attacker chased him and stabbed him repeatedly, resulting in his death. Meanwhile, area residents gathered at the scene and tried to apprehend the attacker. When they failed, they allegedly opened fire on him, hitting him five times and critically injuring him. The police said the incident apparently stemmed from a personal dispute.
