TIMERGARA: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) leader and former provincial minister Inayatullah Khan on Sunday urged the government to form a judicial commission to probe the case of Pakistan Customs officer Dr Karam Elahi and ensure a fair trial for him.
Talking to reporters here at Timergara, he said that he had been acquainted with Karam Elahi for a long time and that both belonged to Dir. He termed him as an honest, competent and dedicated officer with a good professional reputation.
He said Karam Elahi, who was serving as collector FBR in Balochistan and, according to media reports, had deposited around Rs25 billion recovered during a period of just five months.
Inayatullah alleged that Karam Elahi was initially abducted and was subsequently shown as arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Peshawar. He called for a transparent and impartial investigation into the matter and urged the government to ensure that all legal safeguards available to the accused were respected.
The former provincial minister also called upon the government to refrain from harassing Karam Elahi’s family members and friends, saying that they should not be subjected to pressure in connection with the case.
