BANNU: A police constable was martyred after unidentified gunmen opened fire on him in the Surani area of Bannu on Sunday morning, police officials said.According to police, the incident was a terrorist attack and a search operation was launched to arrest the perpetrators.
The police said that Constable Saifullah Khan, a resident of Surani, was returning home after performing his duty at the Mirzabat Shah Surani Township checkpost when unidentified armed men targeted him as he entered his village. He died at the scene after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.
The funeral prayers of the martyred constable were later offered with state honours at the Bannu Police Lines. District Police Officer Muhammad Furqan Bilal, senior police officers, personnel and members of the victim’s family attended the funeral.
The DPO laid a floral wreath on the coffin and paid tribute to the martyred constable. A smartly turned-out police contingent also presented a guard of honour during the funeral.Expressing condolences to the bereaved family, the DPO said that the police martyrs were a valuable asset of the nation and the police force, adding that their sacrifices would never go in vain.
He said the police remained determined to avenge the blood of their martyrs and would continue the fight against terrorism to the fullest extent.He assured the bereaved family that the force would never leave them alone and would continue providing all possible assistance and support. Following the attack, police tightened security in the area and launched a search operation and investigation to trace and arrest the attackers.
