LAHORE:Chief Minister’s Apni Chhat, Mehfooz Chhat Programme was gaining record popularity, with more than 89,000 applications received on the portal so far. This was claimed in a meeting of the Phata Governing Body held under the chairmanship of Punjab Minister for Housing and Urban Development Bilal Yasin on Sunday. For the first time, the budget was presented before the Phata Governing Body, along with a review of annual performance and targets.

The Governing Body expressed satisfaction over Phata’s performance and the success of the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar Programme. The meeting was also briefed on the provision of free plots under the Apni Zameen Apna Ghar Programme. The meeting approved the expansion of the Affordable Housing Programme on Phata land. On the occasion, Provincial Minister Bilal Yasin said that effective implementation of Phata laws would also be ensured for affordable housing schemes. He said that millions of applications for the Chief Minister Punjab’s interest-free loan schemes reflected the public confidence in these initiatives. Approval of housing schemes on green areas had created environmental risks, he added.

Bilal Yasin directed that enforcement action against illegal housing schemes be accelerated. He said facilitating developers who comply with the law was among the government’s priorities. Bilal Yasin made it clear that those deceiving citizens and selling them files fraudulently would be brought to justice.
