Rawalpindi : Independence Day was celebrated with national spirit and enthusiasm at the Rawalpindi General Post Office (GPO), where the building was illuminated and decorated with colourful electric lights, says a press release.
A flag-hoisting ceremony was held at the GPO as part of the celebrations. The national anthem was played before Chief Postmaster Rawalpindi Atif Naveed Dhothar hoisted the national flag.
Probation Officer Kainat, along with departmental officers, employees and commemorative stamp collectors, attended the ceremony.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Postmaster Atif Naveed Dhothar described freedom as a divine blessing and a precious gift from Allah Almighty. He called for unity beyond all prejudices, saying the sacrifices of the country’s forefathers placed a responsibility on the present generation to advance Pakistan through hard work, honesty and national solidarity.
He said Pakistan Post was an important public service institution and was committed to improving postal facilities in line with modern requirements and providing quality services to the public.
He urged employees to play an active role in strengthening the institution, stressing that collective dedication, professionalism and a strong sense of responsibility could help Pakistan Post make a greater contribution to national development.
Dhothar further called on employees to utilise their skills and capabilities to improve departmental performance and ensure that postal services become more efficient and modern, in line with international standards.
