The Sindh government has approved a 7.05 per cent increase in water and sewerage charges of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) for the financial year 2026-27, with the revised tariff taking effect retrospectively from July 1, 2026.
According to an official notification published in the Sindh Government Gazette on August 10, the tariff has been revised on the basis of the average Consumer Price Index (CPI). The notification formally incorporates the decision of the KW&SC Board, which approved the increase for both retail and bulk consumers.
Under the revised tariff, monthly water and sewerage charges for residential properties will be determined according to plot size. The new schedule also sets fixed monthly charges for various categories of commercial establishments, including business centres, shops and other commercial properties.
The revised rates apply to residential, commercial and other categories covered by the corporation’s tariff schedule. According to the water corporation, the tariff revision is aimed at strengthening its revenue base and improving its financial capacity to provide sustainable water supply services and maintain, repair and rehabilitate the city’s sewerage infrastructure.
The corporation said additional resources were needed to meet the growing requirements of Karachi’s expanding population and maintain essential civic services. The revised tariff comes into effect from July 1, 2026, for the 2026-27 financial year.
The increase comes as Karachi continues to face challenges related to water availability, sewerage infrastructure and the maintenance of ageing civic systems. The water corporation has linked the tariff revision to efforts to improve service delivery and ensure the long-term financial sustainability of water and sewerage operations in the city.
