ABBOTTABAD: Angry residents on Wednesday blocked the Karakoram Highway (KKH) for five hours to protest against prolonged and unannounced Sui gas loadshedding in the Abbottabad region over the last two weeks
The protest, led by social activist Naseer Khan Jadoon, was called off after successful negotiations between the protesters and Sui gas authorities. The talks resulted in assurances that gas supply to domestic consumers would be restored for 24 hours a day, while CNG stations would receive gas for up to 12 hours daily.
Following the assurances, the protesters ended their demonstration and reopened the KKH to traffic. The blockade caused long queues of vehicles on both sides of the highway, severely disrupting traffic and routine life.
Students and government employees were among those who faced considerable hardship after being stranded while travelling to educational institutions and government offices. Other commuters and transporters also suffered due to the prolonged traffic disruption.
