LAHORE: The Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA) is considering gradually reducing its dependence on police personnel for field operations and replacing them with its own trained workforce in phases, sources said.
According to official documents and sources, the move is aimed at addressing challenges faced by the force, including reliance on police personnel, alleged corruption at the field level and misuse of authority.
The documents revealed that multiple complaints had been received against police personnel deployed with Pera, leading to disciplinary action against some officials. As many as 1,596 personnel were issued warnings, while 351 were sent back from the force, according to the report.
Sources said Pera was now planning to induct and train its own personnel for field duties, while a proposal to establish a dedicated Pera training academy was also under consideration.
Meanwhile, the authority is accelerating the introduction of digital monitoring systems to improve oversight of field operations, enhance transparency and strengthen accountability mechanisms.Sources added that recommendations had also been made to ensure that Pera operations remained within its legal mandate.
