KARACHI: Runners across Pakistan and around the world will come together this Independence Day for Run for Pakistan 2026, a nationwide and global running initiative celebrating Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day through sport, unity and national pride.
Organized by Sports in Pakistan in partnership with Falcon Triathlon Club for the Lahore activity and Islamabad Runners Club for the Islamabad activity, the event will take place simultaneously in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, while Pakistani runners living across the world will participate virtually. The on-ground races will be held in DHA Phase 8, Karachi; Bagh-e-Jinnah, Lahore; and PSB Sports Complex, Islamabad. Participants will have the option of taking part in three race distances — 7km, 14km and 21km. The virtual component will allow Pakistani runners from around the world to join the celebrations from their respective cities and countries, carrying the spirit of Independence Day beyond Pakistan’s borders.
Commenting on the initiative, Shoaib Nizami, CEO Sports in Pakistan, said: “This Independence Day, we are coming together to celebrate Pakistan the way we know best, by running with pride, passion and unity. Run for Pakistan is more than a race; it is a tribute to our homeland.” Highlighting the global nature of the initiative, Nizami encouraged Pakistanis living abroad to participate and showcase their connection with the country.
“Whether you’re in Europe, Dubai, London, Lahore, Malaysia or anywhere else in the world, represent Pakistan with pride. Run past your city’s iconic landmark, carry the Pakistani flag while you run, record a short video and send it to us for a chance to be featured in our global Run for Pakistan reel. Let’s show the world that no matter where we are, we Run for Pakistan.”
A special feature of this year’s event will be the Year of Quaid-e-Azam Medal, commemorating 150 years since the birth of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Nizami said the medal was designed to carry a significance beyond the achievement of completing a race:
“Some medals celebrate a finish. This one celebrates a legacy. The Year of Quaid-e-Azam Medal honors 150 years since the birth of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.”
