SUKKUR: Four dacoits were killed, while a policeman was martyred and another one was critically injured in separate encounters in Shikarpur and Nawabshah districts.
According to DSP Khanpur, Rana Nasrullah, the personnel of Naperkot police station spotted three suspects moving on a motorcycle near Shajara Laro, Khanpur, District Shikarpur, and signalled them to stop, however, the suspects opened fire on the police mobile.
As a result, police driver Barkat Mangnejo was seriously injured after being hit by two bullets -- one in the leg and one in the arm. In retaliatory fire, the police killed the three suspects. The injured policeman was rushed to Khanpur Hospital for first aid and later referred to Ziauddin Hospital Sukkur for further treatment. SSP Shikarpur Muhammad Kaleem visited the injured Constable Barkat and received a detailed briefing from the doctors regarding his condition and treatment.
The bodies of the killed suspects were moved to Khanpur Hospital for post-mortem where they were identified as Rab Nawaz, Zafarullah and Azizullah.
Police impounded the motorcycle and recovered one Kalashnikov from the killed suspects, claiming that they were wanted in multiple cases of theft, robbery, murder and police encounters in Shikarpur district.
Meanwhile, acting on an information that some dacoits were present near Sakrand Sugar Mill in Nawabshah district, the police reached there and challenged the outlaws. Upon seeing the police party, the dacoits opened fire, as a result, Constable Muhammad Hassan Khoso was martyred. Following the encounter, police from across the district cordoned off the sugarcane fields and launched a search operation that caused the exchange of fire in which one dacoit Gulab Shah was killed.
The body of the martyred policeman was shifted to Police Lines Nawabshah, while the corpse of the killed dacoit was moved to THQ Hospital Qazi Ahmed.
According to SHO Qazi Ahmed police station Bashir Ahmed Chandio, the killed dacoit was wanted in multiple cases -- including murder, kidnapping for ransom, and motorcycle theft.
