GUJRAT: A heartless mother who gave birth to twins in Gujrat allegedly put her newborn babies in a shopping bag and abandoned them.
The incident took place in Madina Syedan area within jurisdiction of Sadar Gujrat Police Station.
According to Rescue officials, the newborn brother and sister have been handed over to Child Protection Gujranwala. Doctors said both babies are healthy.
Police have traced the mother who allegedly abandoned the twins. The woman, who is currently under police custody and receiving treatment at a hospital, is being booked in a case. Police sources said preliminary investigations revealed the woman’s husband had contracted a second marriage, which had caused her distress and led her to abandon the children.
