Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi has said Pakistan’s independence was achieved through immense sacrifices, unwavering determination and unity of millions of Muslims.
He urged the nation to preserve the true spirit of freedom and pass its values on to future generations as he addressed an Independence Day Mushaira at the Governor House on Saturday night.
He paid tribute to the sacrifices of the country’s forefathers, saying they had laid down their lives, wealth and homes to secure an independent homeland for future generations. He said Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah had worked tirelessly for Pakistan’s independence despite suffering from serious illness, adding that the real fulfilment of the Quaid’s vision lay in ensuring quality education, health care and other basic facilities for every household.
Hashmi said poets and writers had played a pivotal role in the Pakistan Movement by inspiring the masses and strengthening the spirit of freedom. He noted that literary gatherings such as Mushairas helped acquaint the younger generation with the struggle for independence and the sacrifices rendered for the creation of Pakistan.
The governor stressed that it was a collective national responsibility to cherish the blessings of independence and transmit its significance to the country’s youth. He also called upon all segments of society to play their due role in promoting Pakistan’s progress, peace and prosperity. The Independence Day Mushaira at the Governor House was presided over by renowned poet Sehar Ansari.
