GOTHENBURG: Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has played down concerns over Mason Mount after the England midfielder was forced off with a foot injury during Saturday’s 1-1 pre-season draw against Paris St-Germain.
Mount was substituted inside the opening 20 minutes after appearing to pick up the injury following a challenge. Tyler Fletcher replaced him as United opted to take a cautious approach with the midfielder.
Reflecting on Mount’s injury Carrick said he was taken off as a precaution after being kicked.“He got kicked,” Carrick said.“We just wanted to be careful and look after him. We’ve been lucky with injuries so far, so we wanted to be careful.”
United fell behind after Ibrahim Mbaye gave PSG the lead inside the opening two minutes, but Bryan Mbeumo restored parity before half-time to earn Carrick’s side a respectable draw against the French champions.
Carrick was encouraged by United’s overall display and believes the match provided valuable preparation ahead of the new Premier League season.“The things that we were trying to get out of the game, a lot of it was there,” the 45-year-old said.
“It’s good sometimes that the boys have to problem-solve and find their way a little bit. We don’t want to always give them the answers, when we don’t have to.”United will continue their pre-season preparations with fixtures against Leeds United and AC Milan before beginning their Premier League campaign against promoted Hull City on 22nd August.
