Sindh Secretary for College Education Nadeem Memon on Friday chaired a high-level meeting to review the implementation of the biometric attendance system, staff attendance and the monitoring mechanism in government colleges across the province.
Officials said the meeting decided to ensure the biometric attendance system was made fully functional, transparent and effective, while directing that immediate show-cause notices be issued to absent employees and that habitual absentees would face strict departmental action under the relevant service rules.
The meeting was briefed on the status of biometric attendance and overall staff attendance in government colleges across Sindh. Officials informed the secretary that the province’s government colleges currently employ 8,976 teaching and 5,874 non-teaching staff members. Memon directed the authorities concerned to ensure 100 per cent biometric attendance and remove all technical and administrative hurdles affecting the system in order to strengthen transparency, discipline and accountability.
During the meeting, directors from the Mirpurkhas and Sukkur regions reported that a number of teachers had remained continuously absent from duty. Expressing serious concern, Memon ordered the immediate issuance of show-cause notices to the employees concerned and directed that action be initiated against them in accordance with the rules. He warned that employees failing to provide satisfactory explanations or continuing to remain absent would face strict departmental proceedings under the service rules.
The secretary also directed that all officers and employees proceeding on any form of leave, including Ex-Pakistan Leave, must report to the College Education Department immediately upon the expiry of their approved leave period. Failure to do so without valid justification, he said, would be treated as unauthorized absence and dealt with under the relevant rules.
