Islamabad:The expansion of the Islamabad Safe City Project has reached 85 per cent completion, with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi setting a firm deadline of September 30 for the final delivery of the capital's modernised surveillance network.
During a progress review at the Safe City Headquarters on Friday alongside Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Naqvi stated that the overhaul aims to align Islamabad's security infrastructure with advanced global standards. Project officials briefed the leadership that the vast majority of planned surveillance cameras are now active, supported by 415 kilometers of newly laid optical fiber across the federal territory. Additionally, roughly 80 percent of the project's data center, cyber architecture, and cyber security framework is fully operational.
Expressing satisfaction with the current pace of work, the interior minister directed relevant departments to adhere strictly to the end-of-September deadline. He further established a separate three-month timeline for the completion of a centralized Fusion Centre, designed to integrate monitoring, intelligence gathering, and rapid emergency response capabilities into a single operational hub.
