LAHORE:Punjab University (PU) and Nazarbayev University (NU), Kazakhstan, have signed a Letter of Intent(LoI) to promote academic, educational and research collaboration between the two leading higher education institutions.
In this regard, a signing ceremony was held at PU VC’s office committee room here on Friday. On this occasion, PU VC Prof Dr Muhammad Ali, Prof Dr Rehan Sadiq from Nazarbayev University Kazakhstan, and others were present.
The LoI aims to strengthen institutional cooperation by fostering collaborative research in areas of mutual academic interest, promoting faculty, scholar and researcher exchange for teaching and research, facilitating reciprocal student exchange programmes, and jointly organising training programmes, workshops, seminars and conferences.
According to agreement, both universities will explore articulation pathways for academic degree programmes, including joint, dual and double degree arrangements, subject to the approval of relevant regulatory authorities.
In his remarks, PU VC Prof Dr M Ali said that international academic partnerships are essential for enhancing research excellence, innovation and global engagement. Meanwhile, Prof Dr Shahid Munir, Vice Chancellor of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) here on Friday, laid the foundation stone of the Extension Building of the Department of Islamic Studies. The project is being developed with the support of UET Lahore alumni.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor said that the project reflected the alumni's enduring affection, commitment, and sense of responsibility towards their alma mater. He remarked that the Extension Building of the Department of Islamic Studies was not merely an expansion of physical infrastructure but a manifestation of a broader academic vision aimed at integrating Islamic scholarship with contemporary knowledge, modern technology, research and innovation. He emphasised that the era of artificial intelligence, digital technologies, modern communication and rapidly evolving global challenges requires graduates who possess a profound understanding of the Holy Qur'an and Sunnah alongside expertise in modern scientific and technological disciplines.
