LAHORE:In view of the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, PDMA Punjab has released a fact sheet regarding the monsoon flood situation. According to PDMA Punjab, monsoon rains have been recorded in most districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours; 65mm was recorded in Mohammadi Chowk in Rawalpindi, 64mm in Khushab and Gujranwala, 58mm in Joharabad, 57mm in Sargodha, while 33mm was recorded in Chiniot. Similarly, 29mm rain was recorded in Narowal, 20mm in Mandi Bahauddin, 18mm in Okara, 15mm in Sheikhupura, 12mm in Hafizabad and 10mm in Faisalabad. Despite the record rainfall, drainage was ensured in the shortest possible time under the CM’s leadership. Due to advance arrangements and availability of necessary machinery, immediate drainage of rainwater was made possible.
According to PDMA DG M Saif Anwar, continuous monitoring of rivers, dams and barrages is going on across the province on the CM’s instructions. The situation is being monitored 24 hours a day in the PDMA control room.
According to the PDMA spokesperson, there is a low flood situation in the Indus River at Kalabagh and Chashma, while the situation of other important rivers is also being continuously monitored. According to sources, the water level in Tarbela Dam is 96% while in Mangla Dam it is 61%. The water level in Thane Dam is 50 percent, in Pong Dam 47 percent, while in Bhakra Dam, the water level is up to 43 percent. According to PDMA, 53 citizens died and 322 were injured due to various accidents during the monsoon rains this year. On the CM’s instructions, the best medical assistance is being provided to the citizens injured in the rains and other accidents.
PDMA DG said that the protection of life and property of citizens and provision of timely assistance to the victims is the top priority. Under the policy of the Punjab government, the losses of families affected by rains and floods will be compensated. PDMA has appealed to the citizens to take precautionary measures during the rainy season.
