Draws, schedule for Asian Games Hockey announced

LAHORE: The Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) has announced the official pools and schedule for the men’s hockey event at the 20th Asian Games 2026, set to take place in Gifu, Japan from September 18 to October 3.

Pakistan has been placed in Pool B of the Asian Games alongside China, Malaysia, Oman, Thailand, and Uzbekistan. Meanwhile, Pool A features Japan, India, Korea, Bangladesh, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka, promising equally tough contests.

While Pakistan continues preparations for the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026, the Asian Games carry immense strategic importance. Winning gold in Japan guarantees direct qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, making this tournament a potential turning point for Pakistan hockey.

Team sources suggest that if the World Cup campaign falls short, the Asian Games will become a “do-or-die” event. The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has already shifted its focus toward ensuring the squad is primed to reclaim Asian supremacy and end a decade-long Olympic absence.

This schedule sets the stage for Pakistan’s bid to combine World Cup preparations with the high-stakes challenge of Asian Games Olympic qualification. Pakistan will play five group-stage Asian Games fixtures.Schedule is:
