A teenage boy allegedly raped a girl aged a year and a half, and caused her death. The girl’s family caught the suspect and handed him over to police.
The toddler girl had died mysteriously in a house located on Street No. 1, D-Area, Qayyumabad. Her body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), from where it was taken to the morgue for an autopsy, then moved to the cold storage.
Police said her relative Manan had taken her with him to get something, but when he brought her back over an hour later, she was unconscious, her mouth was foul-smelling and her clothes were dirty.
Her family took her to a private hospital at Qayyumabad Chowrangi, where the doctors examined her and advised the family to take her to the JPMC, where she was later pronounced dead.
Police said Manan has been arrested. The girl’s father said his wife’s maternal uncle’s son often came to their house and took his daughter to get something.
The suspect had also visited their home a day earlier and said he would return after getting something for the girl, so he took her with him. He did not bring her back for 20 minutes, and when he left her home, she seemed to be in distress.
When she was apparently not feeling any relief and her condition started deteriorating further as she started vomiting, the family took her to a nearby hospital, from where they then took her to the JPMC, but she died on the way there.
The father said Manan is also a resident of D-Area, and after the incident, he was caught and handed over to police. The suspect works at a factory in Qayyumabad. The father asked police to also arrest the suspect’s facilitators and punish them severely.
A murder case has been registered at the Defence police station on the father’s complaint. Manan, son of Ashiq Hussain, has been named in the case.
The complainant said his wife called on Tuesday night that their daughter had died at the JPMC. The wife said Manan had taken the girl away in the evening on the pretext of getting her something.
The wife said the girl was unconscious and her clothes were dirty when she was brought home. The girl was taken to a nearby hospital, then to the JPMC, where she was pronounced dead.
The family claims Manan raped and tortured the girl, causing her death. Police handed over the body to the family after the autopsy was done. Police said the autopsy report would clarify if the girl was raped and what caused her death.
