MARDAN: A total of 70 cases involving crimes against children were registered in Mardan district from January to July this year, and all the accused have been arrested, police said.
According to official data, the cases included 43 of child sexual abuse, 16 of torture, six of kidnapping and five of murder. Police officials said legal action is being taken against the accused in accordance with the law, adding that all suspects named in the cases have been arrested.
Social workers advocating for children’s rights expressed concern over the incidents. They said parents, educational institutions, civil society and law enforcement agencies must work together to ensure the protection of children and prevent such crimes in the future.
