Rawalpindi:The Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) marked Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir by organising a panel discussion titled "Youm-e-Istehsal: Seven Years of Military Siege in IIOJ&K", bringing together academics, legal experts and public representatives to discuss the legal, political and humanitarian aspects of the Kashmir issue.
The event was organised by the Character Building Society (CBS) and the Law and Moot Society in collaboration with the Department of International Relations under the Directorate of Student Affairs.
Held under the theme "United for Peace, Justice & Freedom," the discussion focused on developments in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K) and the importance of international engagement on the issue.
The panel featured Prof. Dr. Nazir Hussain, Professor of International Relations and former Dean at Quaid-i-Azam University; Prof. Dr. Shaheen Akhtar of the National Defence University; Member of the National Assembly and Advocate High Court Huma Chughtai; and Advocate Supreme Court Sardar Manzar Bashir. Dr. Munazza Razzaq, Assistant Professor in the Department of Law at FJWU, moderated the session.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza underscored the role of universities in promoting informed dialogue on international human rights and the principle of self-determination. She appreciated the organisers for arranging an academic forum that, she said, reflected solidarity with the people of IIOJ&K while promoting the values of peace, justice and human dignity.
The speakers discussed the situation in IIOJ&K following the revocation of Articles 370 and 35A, highlighting issues related to security, demographic changes and human rights. They also emphasised the significance of legal avenues, international advocacy and student engagement in raising awareness of the Kashmir issue.
