LAHORE:Pakistan People’s Party Central Punjab General Secretary Syed Hassan Murtaza has strongly condemned the anti-farmer decision to import one million metric tons of wheat and said that if local farmers' wheat was purchased for Rs95 billion, Pakistan would have been in a position to export it. Those who did not buy wheat till yesterday are recommending a support price of Rs4,500 today, said Hassan Murtaza in a statement issued on Wednesday.

Hassan said that the government's wrong agricultural policies have caused serious damage to the farmers. The results of ignoring the farmers are being revealed today in the form of flour and bread crisis. He said the abundant wheat is available with PASCO and the current crisis can be overcome. However, the agricultural crisis cannot end without taking the farmers and their representative organisations into confidence.

He warned that if the current policies continue, a new sugar crisis may also arise. The farmers are not getting a fair price and timely payment for their crop and the potato crop is already ruined. The situation is getting worse due to government’s anti-farmer policies.
