Mansehra, often celebrated for its scenic beauty and tranquil surroundings, has for decades been known as one of the safest and most peaceful regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Unfortunately, this sense of security is fading fast. Over the past few years, incidents of theft, armed robbery and street crime have increased noticeably across the district. Reports of snatching, burglary and even violent confrontations are becoming disturbingly common, not just in the main city but also in surrounding towns and villages. Many families now hesitate to let their children go out unsupervised and shopkeepers close their businesses earlier than before out of fear.
The local police and administration must take urgent notice of this trend before it escalates further. Increased patrolling, better street lighting, functional CCTV surveillance in busy markets and swift action against known criminal elements are the need of the hour. Equally important is community involvement – neighbourhood watch groups and open communication between citizens and law enforcement can go a long way in restoring the sense of safety that Mansehra was once known for.
