ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday declined bail to an accused involved in uploading objectionable pictures of his ex-wife on social media, with the ruling that such an accused should remain behind bars for his entire life.
A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Muhammad Hashim Khan Kakar and comprising Justice Shakeel Ahmed and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, heard the post-arrest bail application of the accused, Sardar Irfan Asif.
The accused was allegedly involved in a case of uploading objectionable pictures of his ex-wife on social media as retaliation for seeking a divorce.
Justice Kakar remarked that the accused should remain in prison for the rest of his life, stating that by doing all this against his former wife for taking a divorce, he left her unable to even live in the country. A woman’s modesty is her veil, and the accused has violated a sacred relationship, the judge added.
During the hearing, counsel for the accused argued that the victimised woman is currently residing in Dubai, while the accused has been jailed for the past six months.
At this, Justice Kakar remarked that such an accused should remain in prison for his entire life. He noted that the mobile phone has already been recovered from the possession of the accused, and bail application of such an individual cannot be granted.
Following these observations, counsel for the accused requested permission to withdraw the application, which the court granted and disposed of the case.
