CHITRAL: At least two persons were killed, and transport and communication links were severely disrupted after the glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) and cloudbursts triggered flash floods at more than a dozen locations across Upper Chitral and Lower Chitral, officials and local sources said on Tuesday.

The Chitral-Peshawar Highway and the Chitral-Shandur Road were closed to all types of traffic after floodwaters washed away sections of roads and damaged several bridges, cutting off Chitral’s road links with the rest of the country.

According to initial reports, one of the deceased belonged to Broz, while Rescue 1122 recovered the body of another unidentified person from the Chitral River.

Heavy flooding struck Gumbas Gol and Broz Gol following a cloudburst on Monday afternoon, sweeping away bridges and severing road connectivity. Floodwaters also damaged a fibre-optic cable, disrupting internet services and affecting communications across the district.
