PESHAWAR: Police Martyrs’ Day was observed across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the rest of the country on Tuesday to pay tribute to the fallen heroes and ghazis of the police force.
The day is observed every year on August 4, the death anniversary of former Frontier Constabulary commandant and senior police officer Safwat Ghayur, who was martyred in a suicide attack just outside his office.Quran Khwani was held at mosques, while police officers presented salutes at the graves of the fallen heroes. Walks and blood donation camps were also organised in connection with Police Martyrs’ Day.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hameed, Commandant of the Federal Constabulary Riaz Nazir Gara, Capital City Police Officer Mian Saeed Ahmad, Commander 102 Brigade Brigadier Mubashir, Additional IG CTD Jawad Qamar, DIG FC Javed Iqbal, SSP Operations Farhan Khan and others paid tribute to police martyrs by visiting the grave of martyred Additional IGP Safwat Ghayur.
They laid a floral wreath, offered Fateha and prayed for the elevation of the martyr’s rank. A smartly turned-out contingent of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police presented a guard of honour, while family members of the late officer and senior police officials also laid floral wreaths and paid homage to his sacrifice.
Speaking to the media, IGP Zulfiqar Hameed said Police Martyrs’ Day serves as a reminder of the extraordinary sacrifices made by police personnel who laid down their lives to protect the lives and property of citizens, maintain peace and defend the country.
He said officers and constables of the KP Police had fearlessly confronted terrorism, crime and every other threat without hesitation so that people could live in peace and security.The police chief stressed that the nation must always remember their sacrifices and honour them through practical commitment.
The IGP said strong cooperation between the public and the police is essential for lasting peace and urged citizens to support law enforcement agencies by promptly reporting suspicious activities and playing a positive role in the fight against terrorism and crime.
Responding to a question, the IGP reaffirmed the police’s commitment to carrying forward the mission of the martyrs, saying the force would continue making every possible sacrifice to protect lives and property, maintain peace and safeguard the state.
Corps Commander Lieutenant General Omar Ahmad Bukhari on Tuesday visited the Central Police Office to pay tribute to the KP Police. He was received by the IGP, additional IGPs, DIGs and other senior police officers.A smartly turned-out police contingent presented a guard of honour.
