PESHAWAR: Chehlum of Imam Hussain (RA) was observed peacefully across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa amid heightened security measures on Tuesday.
Signals remained suspended at some places while many trade centers remained closed as part of extraordinary security measures. Traffic was also diverted to other roads after some routes were blocked for security.
In Peshawar, more than 4,500 police officers and personnel were deployed to ensure the safety of mourners. More cops were deployed at entry points to the city while a multi-layered security strategy was put in place for the processions.
Apart from the deployment of cops, anti-drone cameras, anti-drone systems, anti-drone guns, the Safe City Project, mobile camera surveillance units, and CCTV cameras were used for security. Security across Peshawar remained on high alert.
Meanwhile, mourning processions and religious gatherings were held across Kurram district, with the main procession in Parachinar concluding peacefully amid stringent security arrangements.
According to the district administration, 258 imambargahs hosted mourning gatherings, while 109 processions were taken out across the district to mark the occasion.The largest Chehlum procession in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which started from the Central Imambargah in Parachinar, concluded without any untoward incident.
