Rawalpindi:The Chehlum of the martyrs of Karbala was observed in Rawalpindi on Tuesday with deep devotion and reverence.
The main Chehlum procession was taken out from Imambargah Ashiq Hussain in Teli Mohalla and concluded at the old Imambargah after passing through its traditional route. Mourners participated in matam, zanjeer zani and noha khawani throughout the procession.
Comprehensive security arrangements were put in place to ensure the peaceful observance of the event. Under the district police's security plan, more than 3,600 police officers and personnel were deployed for the procession, while over 300 officials were assigned to manage security and traffic.
Walk-through gates were also installed at all entry points and the participants underwent thorough body searches before joining the procession. Snipers were stationed on rooftops, while Safe City cameras and other surveillance systems monitored the route. Streets, roads and connecting lanes along the procession route were sealed to maintain security.
Regional Police Officer (RPO) Babar Sarfraz Alpa, Commissioner Rawalpindi Salman Ghani, City Police Officer (CPO) Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera and Deputy Commissioner Captain (r) Nadeem Nasir personally supervised the security arrangements. During the procession, RPO Babar Sarfraz Alpa, accompanied by Commissioner Salman Ghani, visited the main procession route, where the CPO briefed them in detail on the security plan and the measures taken to ensure the smooth and peaceful conduct of the event.
