LAHORE:IG Punjab Police Abdul Karim paid tribute to the martyrs of Punjab Police on the occasion of Police Martyrs’ Day, saying that the officers and personnel who sacrificed their lives for the country are a source of pride for the entire nation.
He also paid tribute to the mothers who sacrificed their sons in service of the country, saying their sacrifices would always be remembered.The IG said that 1,743 Punjab police officers and personnel had laid down their lives in the fight against terrorism, for the maintenance of peace and in operations against criminals. He described Police Martyrs’ Day as a day to renew the commitment to honour those sacrifices, adding that living nations never forget their heroes.
Police spokesperson said that Police Martyrs’ Day ceremonies will be held across the province on August 5 (today). Meanwhile, Pakistan Railways Police, in compliance with the directives of its IG M Wisal Fakhar Sultan, observed Police Martyrs’ Day with great reverence, respect and national spirit on Tuesday.
Various commemorative ceremonies were organised at all divisions, Railway Police Stations and Railway Police Lines of Pakistan Railways Police to pay tribute to the supreme sacrifices rendered by police martyrs. Commemorative banners were also displayed at all Railway Police Stations, Police Lines and railway installations, while candles were lit in the evening in remembrance of the martyrs.
At 8.00am, a one-minute silence was observed across all divisions to pay homage to the enduring sacrifices of the police martyrs.Addressing the ceremonies, the speakers paid glowing tribute to the unparalleled sacrifices, courage, bravery and everlasting services rendered by the police martyrs in the line of duty and for the protection of the country.
