The Sindh government has taken key decisions to modernise the province’s public transport system, including launching an EV (electric vehicle) taxi service in September, introducing 50 new double-decker buses in Karachi in October, and inducting another 1,000 EV buses into the public transport fleet in phases from the year-end.
An important meeting chaired by Senior Minister for Information and Transport & Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon, also decided launching new Peoples Bus Service (PBS) routes from Larkana to Qambar, and from Qambar to Shahdadkot. A detailed briefing was also presented on various ongoing projects.
The meeting also decided opening a section of the mixed traffic lane on Karachi University Road for public use in September to significantly improve traffic flow.
Memon ordered that all Red Line depots be completed within the stipulated timeline, while the new PBS routes be made operational at the earliest. He said that the new double-decker buses would providing residents with modern, comfortable and high-quality travel facilities.
Opening a section of the mixed traffic lane on University Road to the public in September will significantly improve traffic flow, he added. He reiterated the government commitment to continue taking vigorous steps to provide modern, safe, eco-friendly and reliable public transport facilities to the residents.
