GLASGOW: Egypt’s world No. 55 Salman Khalil produced a string of impressive performances to claim the $41,000 PN Fleet Club Squash Championship, upsetting Pakistan’s top players before defeating world No. 29 Nasir Iqbal in straight games in the final. Khalil, one of the tournament’s unfancied contenders, outplayed Nasir 3-0 in the title clash, winning 14-12, 11-3, 13-11 in a 42-minute contest to lift the title.

The Egyptian began his giant-killing run by defeating Pakistan’s Asem Khan in the quarter-finals before maintaining his superb form to outclass Nasir in the final. Pakistan’s leading player Noor Zaman, one of the favourites for the title, suffered an early exit and failed to reach the semi-finals. Former world junior champion Hamza Khan also endured a disappointing campaign, bowing out before the last four.
