KARACHI: Former Governor of Punjab Khalid Maqbool has said the strength of any country’s economy depends on a vibrant industrial and business sector, adding that Pakistan’s business community has consistently played a vital role in promoting industry, trade, exports and employment despite challenging economic conditions.
He made the remarks while addressing members of the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) during a visit to the association on Tuesday. The event was attended by KATI President Muhammad Ikram Rajput, Senior Vice President Zahid Hameed, former President Junaid Naqi, Major General (r) Imtiaz Hussain Shirazi, Israr Ahmed, and a delegation of businessmen and industrialists from Punjab.
Maqbool said strengthening the national economy requires greater trust, cooperation and sustained engagement between the government, the private sector and state institutions. He stressed the need to focus on technological advancement, industrial innovation, workforce development, export expansion and creating employment opportunities for young people.
“A strong economy is the foundation of national security and sustainable development,” he said, adding that he will continue to support efforts to convey the concerns of industrialists to the relevant government forums and help facilitate a more conducive business environment.
Speaking on the occasion, KATI President Muhammad Ikram Rajput said promoting industry and trade should remain a national priority to support Pakistan’s long-term economic growth. He said the timely resolution of industrial issues, restoration of investor confidence, expansion of exports and continuity of business-friendly policies are critical to building a stable and resilient economy.
Rajput said KATI remains committed to strengthening coordination between the government, public institutions and the private sector to improve the country’s business climate. He reaffirmed that the association will continue to play an active role in representing industrialists and contributing to national economic development.
Addressing the gathering, Major General (r) Imtiaz Hussain Shirazi praised KATI’s contribution to Pakistan’s industrial sector, describing it as one of the country’s leading trade associations. He said the association has consistently worked to promote industry, exports, investment, employment generation and economic growth.
Participants also held detailed discussions on matters of mutual interest, including industrial development, investment opportunities, enhancing export competitiveness and addressing the key challenges facing Pakistan’s economy.
