MIRPUR (AJK): In the electoral history of Azad Jammu Kasmir history eight women to contest in different constituencies under direct adult franchise basis to step into AJK Legislative Assembly’s general elections-2026, it was officially said.
“A total of 832 candidates are in the electoral race this year, including eight women representing different political parties as well as independent platforms. Their participation is being widely viewed as an encouraging step towards greater political inclusion and representation of women in AJK”, AJK Election Commission sources said on Friday.
The women candidates include Farhat Nisar Malik, contesting as an independent from LA-8 Kotli-I (Raj Mahal); Subha Siddique of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party from LA-12 Kotli-V (Charhoi); Nabeela Irshad Advocate of the Jammu Kashmir Democratic Party from LA-23 Sudhnoti-VI; Noreen Arif of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) from LA-27 Muzaffarabad-I; Tahneet Iqbal Awan of Tehreek-e-Naujawanan Pakistan from LA-29 Muzaffarabad City; Taqdees Gillani of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party from LA-28 Lachhrat-II; and Shaheen Kausar Dar of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Maryam Javed of the PML-N, who are contesting against each other from LA-37 Jammu-IV.
