The Directorate of College Education, Karachi Region, has directed all government colleges under its administrative control to organize a week-long tree plantation campaign from August 17 to 22, 2026, as part of the Sindh government’s efforts to promote environmental sustainability and a greener Pakistan.
According to an official notification issued on Tuesday, the campaign has been launched on the directives of the secretary, College Education Department, Government of Sindh, with special emphasis on the plantation of Neem trees across government college campuses.
The drive will be conducted under the slogans “One Employee, One Tree” and “One Classroom of Students, One Tree.” Under the initiative, every employee has been instructed to plant at least one Neem sapling and remain responsible for its care, protection and maintenance until it reaches maturity. Employees may also install small name plates beside their trees to promote a sense of ownership.
Similarly, each classroom will plant and maintain one Neem tree under the supervision of the concerned class teacher. The notification states that Neem saplings will be provided free of cost by the Social Forestry Wing of the Forest Department. College principals have been asked to coordinate directly with Range Forest Officer Zeeshan Chang for the collection of saplings and ensure their plantation within college premises and other suitable locations.
All colleges have also been directed to submit a comprehensive report, along with high-quality photographs of the plantation activities, to the Directorate during the last week of August.
To encourage participation, the Directorate announced that Certificates of Appreciation would be awarded to principals and staff members of colleges demonstrating outstanding performance by planting and successfully maintaining the highest number of trees.
The directive has been issued with the approval of Regional Director Colleges Gulab Rai and circulated to all principals of government colleges in Karachi, as well as the Secretary, College Education Department, the Director General Colleges Sindh, and the Social Forestry authorities.
