Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Wednesday said that expressing one’s point of view is the hallmark of every democratic society and that differences of opinion should always be respected.

He said that every individual has the constitutional and democratic right to express their views; however, public service remains the true benchmark of politics, and the problems facing the people of Pakistan can only be resolved through practical measures rather than mere slogans.

He expressed these views in a statement. Wahab said that if there is any leadership sincerely and consistently working to resolve the issues faced by the people, it is the leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party. He added that Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has effectively presented Pakistan’s position at both national and international forums, and the manner in which Pakistan’s case was advocated on global platforms with confidence and conviction is highly commendable.

He further stated that the devastating impact of climate change on Pakistan, particularly its adverse effects on the country’s agricultural economy, was forcefully highlighted before the international community, drawing global attention to the challenges confronting Pakistan. He said that the initiative to construct 2.1 million housing units for the provision of better housing facilities to the people is a clear example of public service.

The mayor said highlighting the issues of the people from every region of the country, including Gilgit-Baltistan, has always been a PPP tradition. He added that Bilawal has consistently advocated for the constitutional, democratic, and economic rights of the people, and that only leadership which raises public issues with dedication, seriousness, and continuity earns the trust of the people.

He remarked that some politicians only approach the public during election campaigns, whereas genuine public service requires continuous engagement, remaining among the people, and listening to their concerns. He said Bilawal has always maintained close contact with the people and has stood by them during every difficult time.

He said that listening to the people, being present among them, and speaking up for their rights is the essence of true politics. He emphasized that the people of Pakistan are politically aware and make their decisions with the country’s and the nation’s best interests in mind. He added that for Pakistan to achieve progress, prosperity, and stability, citizens must make informed and thoughtful choices.

He said Pakistan’s future is linked with its youth, public service, and the promotion of democratic values. The PPP firmly believes in public service, democratic stability, and the protection of people’s rights. “Serving the people has always been the purpose of our politics. We have always stood with the people, we stand with them today, and we will continue to do so in the future,” he said.
