KARACHI: The Sindh Seed Corporation’s total income increased by Rs30.567 million over the past 10 months.The final meeting of the sub-committee reviewing the corporation’s performance was held under the chairmanship of Sindh Agriculture Minister Sardar Muhammad Bux Mahar.
It was attended by Irrigation and Planning Minister Jam Khan Shoro, Culture Minister Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, Agriculture Secretary Muhammad Zaman Narejo, farmers’ leader Mehmood Nawaz Shah, Managing Director Sindh Seed Corporation Abdul Fattah Halejo, Deputy Secretary Khadim Hussain Buriro and other relevant officials.
The sub-committee was presented with a performance report covering the 10 months from October 2025 to July 2026.Halejo told the meeting that the corporation’s total income has increased from Rs65.732 million to Rs96.299 million compared to the previous fiscal year, a rise of Rs30.567 million. Of this, Rs15.768 million was earned from rice production and Rs33.566 million from wheat production.
The meeting was informed that between October 2025 and July 2026, 27 ghost employees were removed from the payroll, 150 acres of government agricultural land were freed from illegal occupation, and cotton and sugarcane cultivation areas increased by 207 and 71 acres respectively. Rs6.851 million was collected in rent during the period.
Other measures included conversion of six tube wells to solar energy, the first-ever initiation of fish pond recovery, and transfer of 3,394 maunds of wheat seed to the Sakrand plant for processing. Salaries were paid to all employees on time over the past 12 months, two FIRs were registered against illegal soil removal, and 15 tenancy agreements were cancelled.
Mahar said the improvement in the corporation’s performance is encouraging and reflected the positive outcomes of reforms. He directed that transparency, accountability and merit-based measures be further strengthened, and announced that the performance report will be presented at the upcoming Sindh cabinet meeting.The agriculture minister, along with Jam Khan Shoro, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah and farmers’ representatives, praised the overall performance of the Sindh Seed Corporation.
