KARACHI: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) on Tuesday launched an anti-encroachment operation on the land of the Orangi Reservoir in North Nazimabad, demolishing several illegal structures and removing encroachments.
Officials said the operation was aimed at recovering the corporation’s valuable land and protecting public interest infrastructure. It was carried out in coordination with the district administration, police and K-Electric.
Representing the water corporation during the operation were Chief Security Officer Syed Jawad Shah, Senior Director Land Abdul Rauf Jamali, Superintending Engineer Tanveer Sheikh, Executive Engineer Rizwan Ahsan and Syed Sajjad Shah of the Security Department. Director Land of the North Nazimabad Municipal Corporation and officials from the Anti-Encroachment Cell also participated.
During the operation, authorities demolished various illegal structures and encroachments established along the boundaries and boundary wall of the Orangi Reservoir.
Although some individuals initially resisted, the district administration and law enforcement agencies brought the situation under control, allowing the operation to conclude peacefully.
According to the KWSC spokesperson, Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Ali Siddiqui remained in constant contact with officials throughout the operation, while Deputy Commissioner Central Taha Saleem visited the site and appreciated the action.
The spokesperson said the water Corporation’s land was a national asset and that no illegal occupation would be tolerated. He added that similar operations would continue to eliminate encroachments and safeguard the institution’s land.
He also appreciated the support of the district administration, police, K-Electric, the North Nazimabad Municipal Corporation and the Anti-Encroachment Cell, stating that the corporation would continue to take indiscriminate action to protect public utility projects and its properties.
