LAHORE: Police have arrested five people for allegedly attacking a police team during a raid to arrest a proclaimed offender (PO) in Hayer police precincts.
According to the FIR, Hayer police received information that PO Ilyas alias Ilyaso was hiding inside an under-construction gurdwara. A police team reached the site to arrest him but a man present at the location allegedly alerted the suspect enabling him to escape.
Police said they arrested the man, identified as Zubair of Kasur district. The FIR stated that Zubair later raised an alarm, following which several of his associates arrived armed with sticks and clubs and they attacked the police party, injuring Constable Waseem and tearing his uniform shirt. Police subsequently arrested M Abid, Nauman Akhtar, Naeem, Sajid and Shahid.
Sabzazar police arrested a man for allegedly attempting to murder a motorbike mechanic by stabbing him after a minor altercation. Police said Shehzad attacked mechanic Usman with a knife following a brief exchange of words at Khair Din Chowk while the victim was returning home from work. The injured man was shifted to hospital.
Barki police have arrested a man for allegedly luring and attempting to molest a seven-year-old girl.
Police said the minor, a resident of the Barki area, went to a shop to buy an item where the accused, identified as Javed Haider, allegedly lured her and took her to a house. The girl raised an alarm, following which the suspect fled the scene.
A woman died after being caught in crossfire during a police raid to arrest a suspected robber in the Factory Area. Factory Area police raidedthe area on information about the presence of suspected robber Hasnain Butt alias Sunny. Police said the suspect resisted arrest, opened fire on the raiding party and fled the scene.According to police, a woman standing in a nearby street was hit by a bullet allegedly fired by the fleeing suspect. The woman identified as Arfa died on the spot.
A 20-yearold labourer died after marble slabs loaded on a truck fell on him in Model Town, while police detained the contractor and launched an investigation. The deceased identified as Mazhar of Qila Sattar Shah, Sheikhupura, was travelling on the truck carrying marble slabs when the load reportedly shifted and collapsed on him. He died on the spot.
Body of an unidentified man was recovered from a canal near Skyland Bridge on Canal Road. According to Rescue 1122, its Water Rescue Team retrieved the body after receiving information about the incident. The body was shifted to a morgue.
