KHAR: A leopard that had allegedly been attacking livestock in the Saparay Mandogan area of Wara Mamond tehsil of Bajaur district was killed by the residents on Sunday.
According to residents, the wild animal had been roaming the area for the last several days and was repeatedly targeting livestock. The attacks, they claimed, resulted in the loss of several cows and goats, causing financial hardship for local families, many of whom depend on livestock as a primary source of income.
The repeated incidents created fear among residents, who said they were reluctant to allow their animals to graze freely and were also concerned about the safety of children and other family members living near the affected area.
Locals said they made repeated efforts to trace the leopard after each attack. Following an extensive search, they said, the villagers eventually located the animal and killed it.The residents said the killing of the leopard had eased fears in the area, although they expressed concern over the increasing movement of wild animals into populated areas. They urged the authorities to investigate the reasons behind the animal’s presence in the locality and to take measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The Wildlife Department had not issued an official statement on the incident at the time this report was filed. It also remained unclear whether officials had been informed before the leopard was killed or if any rescue operation had been planned.
