Islamabad : The Assistant Commissioner of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) has directed clothing stall holders at the H-9 Weekly Bazaar to immediately remove all merchandise, tarpaulins, and personal belongings after closing hours each market day. The directive was issued during a meeting held at the bazaar on July 16, 2026, which was attended by officials from the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) and vendor representatives.

The security measure follows the findings of a recent fire incident inquiry report. Officials briefed the vendors that storing clothing material and leaving tarpaulin sheets over the stalls post-closure were major factors that accelerated the rapid spread of the fire. During the session, stall holder representatives noted they had obtained stay orders from the Islamabad High Court. As an alternative to tarpaulins, they requested permission to install shutters on their stalls to secure their goods. The Assistant Commissioner stated that the request for shutters is an administrative matter that will be forwarded to the competent authority for consideration.
